Program Phases
Although each participating law enforcement agency may make changes to the overall design to suit local needs, the program could include some of the following phases: (a) Launching the Project and Recruiting Participant Law Enforcement Officers and Community Leaders, (b) Conducting Workshops, (c) Providing Follow-Up Training Support, (d) Recruiting and Training the Leadership Team, and (e) Conducting an Evaluation.
- First Phase: Launching the Project and Recruiting Participant Law Enforcement Officers and Community Leaders
- Second Phase: Conducting Workshops
- Third Phase: Providing Follow-Up Training Support
- Fourth Phase: Recruiting and Training the Leadership Team
During the first phase of the program, we will work with law enforcement administrators to recruit community leaders and to design a training schedule for law enforcement officers.
In each community, an NCBI Training Team will conduct workshops for law enforcement officers. NCBI estimates conducting three workshops in each program site.
We then provide follow-up support to law enforcement professionals and community leaders that participated in the daylong workshops. The support may consist of any of the following: telephone calls, support groups, personal coaching, or problem-solving clinics.
After we complete the series of workshops for police staff and community leaders, we in consultation with the local law enforcement agency, will recruit from among all of the participants in the workshops a Leadership Team made up of police staff and community representatives. People who choose to join the Leadership Team understand that they are making a commitment to become a community resource, receiving advanced training in communication skills, through a three-day training-of-trainers program so that they can become in turn future trainers, not only for the staff of the law enforcement agency but also for local community groups. We conduct the training programs in each site with the assistance of small group leaders from NCBI local chapters. NCBI staff will provide ongoing follow-up training support to the Leadership Team, which may include group meetings, regular telephone calls, periodic coaching, and leadership clinics.
